i 엘리먼트는 글 내에서 다른 음성 혹은 분위기의 텍스트 영역을 나타낸다. 또는 분류학적 명칭, 기술용어, 다른 언어, 생각 등 일반 글에서 다른 품질의 텍스트를 나타내는 방식으로 쓰인다.

메인 글과 다른 언어의 텍스트는 lang 속성을 함께 사용해야 한다.

i 엘리먼트의 사용예시:

<p>The term <i>prose content</i> is defined above.</p>
